Vacationing with a teenager

by on Feb.11, 2010, under Uncategorized

Teenagers seem to require taking one of their friends to have a good time. However, there are vacations that spending double the amount to bring a friend is not needed. One such vacation is a cruise. We took the Royal Caribbean cruise to the Western Caribbean during spring break to ensure there were lots of kids my son’s age aboard. Royal Caribbean offers special activities for teens including a dance club, pool lounge, karaoke and jam sessions. We rarely saw our son the whole time we were aboard ship. He made friends easily and they were always on the go. We were lucky to see him for dinner because most of the time he and his friends ate at Johnny Rocket’s or would eat together rather than with the ‘parents’. We did talk him into shore trips with the family such as riding jet skis, kayaking or canopy swinging. We stopped in various ports such as Labadee, Haiti; Ocho Rios, Jamaica; George Town, Grand Cayman; Cozumel, Mexico. But in the end, his favorite memories are of meeting friends and having the run of the ship.
