They Snap Me Right Out of It

One of my favorite things about my kids is their ability to enjoy a moment to the fullest. I love spending time with my kids, whether it’s at a museum, diner, playground, Central Park or any other random destination, because they always remind me that once upon a time, I used to also focus on what I was doing, without my mind being preoccupied with worries and fears that seem to have crept up on me as I got older. Even though some of the worries and fears I have are natural, and a result of wisdom and experience, it’s when I am with my kids that I sometimes let go of those worries. Children are amazing — they feel with intensity, whether it’s delight, amusement, excitement, hunger, fatigue, sadness, boredom, anger, anticipation or just plain silliness. I’ll admit that it’s usually the moments of silliness — like the day when we all tried to eat a banana split before it melted, and spent half of the time scooping with our spoons and the other half giggling, that I forget that I’m an adult with responsibilities and worries, and find myself laughing alongside them without a care in the world.
